Pulsating in Ear - Useful Info and Advice

Pulsating in ear is a symptom that something is going on greater that what is perceived. So whenever a person experienced these symptoms, immediate visit to the ear, nose, throat specialist is needed to point the root cause of the problem that a specific treatment might be given.

When the pulse can be heard on the ears, this is referring to as a pulsating, pulsatile or vascular tinnitus. Perception of the same tempo as the heartbeat could be experienced by a person with pulsating in ear. Blood flowing in veins and arteries and other smaller vessels in the neck, skull, and ear could be the cause of it. This is an uncommon sensation in the ear but even though it is uncommon. It must be immediately attended to as it may be a signal of a fatal ailment.

Causes of a pulsating in ear could be caused by so many factors. Some of these factors are chronic inflammation or middle ear infection, Eustachian tube dysfunction, middle ear effusion vascular tumors, arteriovenous malformations, carotid artery cavernous sinus fistula and venous hum. Due to the nearness of the location in the chronic inflammation, sensitiveness to the increased blood flow perception may be noticed, since this is most often accompanied by an increased blood flow to the inflamed tissue. In the case of a Eustachian tube dysfunction, its tube is blocked due to a sinusitis, colds, cough, allergies or excessive earwax, thus resulting to a pulsating in ear.

The air-filled space in the ear is called the middle ear, could be filled with fluid due to an infection, inflammation, or Eustachian tube dysfunction. This could be painful. To relieve the patient, they are prescribed with antibiotics, decongestant and nasal steroid sprays. The tumor called glomus tumors or paragangliomas, though it is not dangerous or life- threatening but could cause pulsating in ear, since the location is just near the sensitive area of hearing interiorly in the specific location. To treat this condition is to undergo a delicate surgery to remove known tumor in the ear area.

pulsating in ear may happen in arteriovenous malformation. These are the abnormal group of arteries and veins that occurs in the cranial cavity near the auditory nerve. Surgery would be the best treatment for this to repair the damage or injuries of certain parts. Carotid artery cavernous sinus fistula could happen with a person with severe head trauma. An abnormality occurs with the very large artery and very large venous within the cranial cavity. This condition though, doesn’t required surgery but an interventional radiologist.

A reason of having pulsating in ear would be the sudden change in blood flow in arteries and veins. Those who are affected usually are the pregnant, anemic, or those with thyroid problems. What happens is that there is an increased blood flow in the largest vein located in the neck. This jugular vein transmits blood from the brain going back to the heart, and since it passes to the middle ear know found inside the ear. People who experience these conditions are advised to visit their ENT doctor as soon as possible for immediate attention.
