PALAZZO VECCHIO

PALAZZO VECCHIO is the town hall of Florence. It was built in 1299. Initially, it was actually the seat of the Priori delle Arti and lordship. The Medici lived there for a while. In 1150-65, Vasari transformed it, for him to use as a more noble seat of executive and official residence of the ruling family. Nowadays it is a museum in the "Monumental Quarters ". BAPTISTERY
In front of the Dome we find the Baptistery of Saint Giovanni. The Baptistery of Saint Giovanni is of traditional origin : XI and XII century.
The Baptistery of Saint Giovanni of Florence is characterized by its covering of white and green marble slabs. Three wonderful bronze doors are present : works of Andrea Pisano and Lorenzo Ghiberti.
The Baptistry of Saint Giovanni of Florence is made in order to receive with dignity the christening font of the Dome ; within it is characterized by the style of the mosaics.The Baptistery is octagonal and fully covered by white and green marble.

THE CATHEDRAL

The Cathedral of Florence called the Duomo. It is set apart by its Italian Gothic style. It's a creation of Arnolfo di Cambio. Like the baptistery, it is covered with marble. This cathedral has diverse artworks, pretty frescoes, statues and even stained glass windows are provoking, as made from drawings by Donatello.

SAN MINATIO AL MONTE

The church San Miniato al Monte alone represents the Tuscan Romanesque architecture. It is quite surprising, due to its cover covered with white and green marble, and an attractive mosaic. THE "DOME"

The dome was built in 1420 by Filippo Brunelleschi. To reach this construction, he developed a new technique. The building was long & difficult, but the dome was built to resist its own weight in order to avoid issues. Of course, Filippo Brunelleschi took into account the different requirements and inhibitions connected with this construction. The work was long and lasted 16 years.
