Private Property Hunting Opposed To Public Property Hunting

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

There are lots of public lands available to deer hunters each year. Despite the fact that public lands are hunted by many, there are still many opportunities to come home with a multitude of deers each hunt. In fact some people only hunt on public lands each season.

In addition to the public lands, you will also discover many private lands that are full of deer that can be hunted. A few private land holders will allow complete strangers to hunt on their lands and a few will not. A quick knock on the door of a private land holder will tell you which one you are dealing with when you are searching for a private land to hunt on. Just keep in mind that you will most likely still need a license to hunt even on private property.

You'll find that most states have ruled that the game animals found on private property still belong to the state. In other words, a deer found on private property cannot be hunted without the state's permission because the deer belongs to the state.

If you are lucky enough to have a private area to hunt in, you can set up your hunting blinds well in advance. When your hunting on your own private lands, you have the advantage of being able to scout things out in advance. This is great because you will give the deer plenty of time to get used to your permanent hunting blinds.

For those of you hunting on public property, consider looking into portable hunting blinds before you plan out any trip. These blinds are not as good as permanent ones, but they do provide shelter from the wind. Scent and sight concealment will also be gained by using portable hunting blinds.

The best way to hunt on public lands is to do it for multiple days at a time. When you hunt for multiple days at a time, you give yourself a chance to scout various areas for signs of deer trails. The competition on public lands can be fierce in many states. Always be sure to recognize the fact that scouting skills are just as important as shooting skills. Deer that can't be found cannot be shot.

Regardless of whether you're hunting on public or personal properties, be sure to take advantage of hunting blinds in good places. With some successful scouting you'll discover that your trip is successful on any lands.
